The research in my lab is currently directed at looking at the mechanisms of blood volume regulation in amphibians. The objective of this work is to understand the physiological mechanisms responsible for interspecific differences in dehydration tolerance in amphibians. Amphibians are characterized by the largest water turnovers of any vertebrate class, hence dehydration is a real and natural stress. Amphibians show interspecific differences in dehydration tolerance which correlate with their degree of terrestriality. The laboratory is equipped to do a variety of measurements including: ionic and osmotic regulation, aerobic metabolism and cardiovascular function.
